Overview
Patricia Braune's inspiration for the Coral Medal design was the intricate coral skeletal texture of the Disc Coral or Fungai fungites. She discovered one of these beauties on a walk along a quiet beach on the island of Aore in the South Pacific and was compelled to illustrate it in my linear style. Taking the Coral Medal design illustrations and weaving it into a bolder and more striking design led to the Coral Medal Weave. Patricia Braune is a wanderer by nature, with an inner need to travel and explore fresh ideas and experiences of places unknown. She is always seeking out new global influences for my work, mostly drawn from the natural environment. Born in Brazil, she had a transient childhood and lived in Germany and South Africa, but the last decade and a half she has happily spent in Sydney Australia, and most recently working from my studio in the beautiful coastal village of Nelson Bay. From her roots in design and advertising, she realized she had a love for intricate hand illustration, a passion for interior textile & wallpaper design, and a strong eye for composition. Add a suppressed desire to be a globetrotter – always seeking inspiration! When creating her wallpaper & textile designs, she begins with pen on paper, capturing intricate details with fine line details to create my signature style. The drawing component is meditative and her favorite part of the creative process, though she also loves seeing the pattern emerge as they come together in the repeat. She has been fortunate to be able to apply her designs to various substrates and applications -including textiles and wallpapers, tiles, mosaics, screens, blinds, and rugs – serving the full spectrum of the interior industry from designers for luxury brands to architects, project managers and builders to DIY home renovators.
