Oysters, Black on White
Overview
While working on her What’s Below collection in London, Merenda was inspired by some beautiful oysters she had eaten. After bringing the shells back to her flat and doing several continuous line drawings with pen on paper for each of the shells, Oysters was born.
Oysters played a major role in NYC’s history—from the Lenape Native Americans who lived and used them for food, plaster, tools and burial grounds, to the great oyster trade era near the turn of the 20th Century. Oysters were so abundant that they used the shells to pave the streets.
